What Is a Quality of Life or Pet Hospice Teleconsult?

Consultation: $175+ tax

Our teleconsultation is a one-on-one, hour-long conversation with an experienced veterinarian who specializes in hospice and palliative care.

Conducted via a secure video platform, this appointment allows us to:

  • Review your pet’s current condition and behaviours
  • Discuss pain, appetite, hydration, mobility, and quality of life
  • Understand your family’s values, preferences, and resources
  • Explore all appropriate care options, including hospice, palliative care, or euthanasia
  • Answer your questions with sensitivity and clarity

This is a judgement-free, pressure-free consultation tailored to your needs. Our goal is to help you make well-informed, compassionate decisions about your pet’s care and comfort.

What Happens After the Teleconsult?

Following the teleconsult, families typically pursue one of two next steps:

\

Palliative or Hospice Care Plan

If you choose to support your pet through a palliative care path, we will schedule an in-home consultation (at a prorated rate) to perform a physical examination. This allows us to create a more detailed, individualized care plan.

\

In-Home Euthanasia

If, after discussion, your family feels that the time has come, we can arrange for a mobile pet euthanasia appointment to ensure your pet’s passing is peaceful and dignified, in their familiar surroundings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a teleconsult is right for me?

If you’re unsure about your pet’s comfort, disease progression, or care options—and want to talk it through with a professional—this service is an excellent first step.

Can you prescribe medication after a teleconsult?

In some cases, yes—but a physical exam may be required first. If so, we’ll book an in-home follow-up.

What if I change my mind after the consult?

There’s no pressure. We’re here to offer information and options. You choose the path that feels right for you and your pet.

What if my pet becomes distressed during the teleconsultation?

That’s okay. Our teleconsults are designed to be low-stress and flexible. If your pet is anxious, we can focus the conversation on your observations and concerns, rather than on direct interaction with your pet. We’ll work at your pet’s pace.

What technology do I need for a teleconsultation?

All you need is a reliable internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera. We use a secure, user-friendly video platform and will send you a link ahead of the appointment.

Who should be present during the appointment?

Anyone involved in your pet’s care or decision-making is welcome to attend. This can be especially helpful for families who want to share the experience and ask questions together.
