In-Home Palliative Care: What To Expect

In-Home Palliative Care Consultation: $350 + tax

In-home palliative care focuses on maintaining comfort and dignity for pets who are geriatric or living with a terminal illness. Rather than pursuing aggressive treatments or curative interventions, our goal is to relieve pain, manage symptoms, and improve your pet’s day-to-day wellbeing.

Each appointment is approximately 1.5 hours, allowing your veterinarian to assess your pet holistically in their familiar home environment. This extended time frame ensures we can properly address your concerns and understand how your pet is doing emotionally, physically, and behaviourally.

We also take the time to discuss your pet’s diagnosis, likely progression, and what to expect in the coming weeks or months. You’ll receive a customised palliative care plan, including pain management strategies, medication if required, environmental adjustments, and dietary recommendations.

We continue to support you with telemedicine follow-ups or additional in-home consultations, adjusting care as your pet’s needs evolve.

During the visit, we assess:

  • Pain levels and mobility
  • Appetite and hydration
  • Wound care or hygiene needs
  • Emotional well-being and comfort

Supporting You with Tools and Follow-Up

We know how overwhelming it can be to track changes in your pet’s condition. To help, we provide access to a secure online Pet Hospice Journal, where you can log daily observations, monitor comfort levels, and share updates with your veterinarian. This tool enhances communication and ensures timely interventions when needed.

You’re never alone. We’re here to guide, adjust, and support as your pet’s needs evolve.

Why It Matters: The Importance of Palliative Care

Geriatric and terminally ill pets often experience subtle changes that can easily go unnoticed until they become distressing. Proactive palliative care ensures:

  • Comfortable pain management
  • Improved mobility and appetite
  • Better sleep and emotional wellness
  • Dignified end-of-life experiences

When provided early, palliative care helps pets live their final days with grace, and helps families feel empowered, supported, and informed.
