What Is an In-Home Quality of Life Assessment?

In-Home Quality of Life Assessment: $350 + tax

An in-home pet quality of life assessment is a comprehensive, 1-on-1 consultation with one of our experienced veterinarians in your own home.

This visit isn’t just about medical data—it’s about understanding your pet’s day-to-day experience. We’ll talk through your observations, your concerns, and any signs you’ve noticed that may indicate discomfort or distress.

After the assessment, we’ll help you understand your pet’s condition, possible progression, and what that may mean for their quality of life moving forward. Our veterinarians will walk you through your options, from hospice and palliative care planning to the possibility of in-home euthanasia, if appropriate.

This 1.5-hour appointment gives us time to gently examine your pet and evaluate all aspects of their well-being, including:

  • Pain and discomfort
  • Appetite and hydration
  • Mobility and physical function
  • Mental and emotional well-being
  • Wound care and hygiene challenges

Why These Assessments Matter

Pets are remarkably stoic, and signs of suffering often go unnoticed until they’re severe. A professional quality of life assessment helps ensure your pet is not silently struggling and allows you to respond with timely, compassionate care.

By identifying areas where comfort can be improved—such as pain relief, mobility support, or nutrition changes—you can:

  • Relieve suffering and discomfort
  • Support mobility and daily function
  • Make empowered, informed care decisions
  • Avoid unnecessary stress from clinic visits
  • Plan for what’s next with confidence and clarity

Even if euthanasia is not the desired or immediate outcome, this appointment provides vital insight and allows you to explore other options to enhance your pet’s comfort and dignity at home.

Is This Service Right for Your Pet?

An in-home quality of life assessment is recommended if your pet:
  • Has been diagnosed with a terminal or degenerative illness
  • Is struggling with pain, stiffness, or mobility issues
  • Has shown changes in appetite, hydration, behaviour, or routine
  • Seems confused, anxious, or withdrawn
  • Is entering their senior years, and you want guidance on next steps

This service is also helpful if you feel unsure about your pet’s comfort and want reassurance or direction from a professional you can trust.
